Retired St. Louis Sportscaster Visits Iveland Elementary to Share New Book

Retired sportscaster Rich Gould spent time with kindergarten, first, and second-grade students at Iveland Elementary School where he read his debut book, “There’s a Snake Down There.”

It is the story of a brave little girl who saves her family while her grandma sleeps through it all. Gould told students the story is based on an incident from his childhood.

Gould’s interactive presentation included playing songs with his guitar and answering questions from students. In addition to donating several copies of the book to the Iveland library, he told students about the writing and illustration process and gave details about some of his upcoming projects.

After 42 years as a sportscaster in St. Louis, Springfield, Mo., Quincy, Ill., and Sacramento, Calif., Gould transitioned to writing children’s books in the past few years.  He is a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
