Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year

July 2026
Dear Marion Families,
The 2026–2027 school year is quickly approaching! We hope you and your family had an amazing summer! Here at Marion, we’ve been preparing for the return of students. As we continue our journey with Competency-Based Education (CBE) and strive to build a positive, supportive community, we anticipate this school year will be one of growth and success!
This year, we are excited to introduce our new theme, “Charting the Course to Success,” with our Marion Eagle mascot dressed as a friendly pirate to remind students to continue focusing on personal growth to achieve their goals. Throughout the year, students will embark on an exciting voyage as they "chart their course" toward success. Just as pirates use maps, compasses and determination to find hidden treasure, our students will set personal and academic goals, track their progress and celebrate milestones along the way.
In a competency-based learning environment, the true treasure is the knowledge, skills and habits students develop as they demonstrate mastery of important competencies. Students will be encouraged to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their growth, persevere through challenges, and use feedback to improve. By focusing on individual progress and continuous growth, every student will have the opportunity to discover their unique strengths and uncover the treasures that come from hard work, responsibility, and a commitment to learning.
We are excited to welcome new members to our Marion family! They are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to meet the students, staff, and families! Please join me in welcoming:
- Special School District (SSD) Coordinator: Ms. Virginia Lohrmann
- Counselor: Ms. Kelcee Davis
- Office Professional: Ms. Kennedi Stewart
- Kindergarten: Ms. Brittany Gutierrez
- First Grade: Ms. Alyssa Adamec
- Fifth Grade: Ms. Tori Butler-Gray
We also say goodbye to some cherished members of our staff. We wish Ms. Gehrin, Ms. Busby and Mr. Diaz a joyful retirement and thank them for their many years of dedicated service. We also say goodbye to Ms. Morales, Mr. Campo, Ms. Johnson, Dr. Oliver and Ms. Ottolino as they pursue other endeavors. Although it’s never easy to say goodbye, we are truly grateful for their time at Marion.

As we celebrate another successful school year, we will miss our rising sixth grade students as they begin an exciting new chapter in middle school. We send them off with a heartfelt reminder: "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!" While we say goodbye to one group of students, we are equally excited to welcome new students, families, and staff members to the Marion community.
At Marion Elementary, we value the strong partnerships we build with our families. We encourage you to become involved by attending school events, volunteering, and joining our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Together, we can create meaningful experiences that support student success and strengthen our school community. It is our commitment to ensure that every student and family feels welcomed, supported, and connected.
Having been a part of Marion Elementary School for the past eight years, I have seen firsthand what makes this school so special. I am honored to serve as principal of a school where students, families and staff work together to build a caring community and foster positive relationships. These connections provide the foundation for both academic achievement and personal growth, helping every student thrive.
We can’t wait to embark on a new adventure in the 2026-2027 school year by “Charting the Course to Success!”
