About Us

The mission of the Ritenour Adult Education & Literacy Program is to provide high-quality educational opportunities that help adult students achieve their academic, employment, and personal goals.

Adult students can earn their high school equivalency certificate, or brush up on basic skills like reading and math through the Ritenour School District's Adult Education program.

Students can also obtain the skills necessary to prepare for post-secondary education, improve English as a second language (ESL) proficiency and achieve other academic, employment or personal goals. Students must be at least 16 years old and no longer attending high school.

All programs are free, including supplies. The Learning Center is located at 8762 St. Charles Rock Road in St. John, Mo. For more information, please call (314) 493-6412.

The ALC and its other sites serve approximately 300 adult students each year, providing HSE preparation, literacy services, English-as-a-Second Language classes, citizenship preparation, and other services. Our students come from all walks of life. They all come to the center because they value education and the opportunities a good education brings. The ALC welcomes students who are at least 17 years old or 16 years of age with 16 high school credits, who are no longer attending high school and are able to provide documentation from their previous school. All students must attend a mandatory orientation.

Our Funding
Ritenours’ AEL is funded primarily by the Ritenour School District and grants from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). AEL partners such as Community Action Agency of St. Louis County (CAASTLC), provide additional resources. The AEL also pursues grants from public and private agencies.

Our Advisory Board
The AEL coordinator meets regularly with an advisory board consisting of local employers, our partners, students, staff, and interested members of the community. If you are interested in joining the Ritenour AEL Advisory Board, please contact Karen Musemic at (314) 493-6411.
