Career Day Inspires Students at Iveland Elementary
Iveland Elementary School hosted its annual Career Day on Jan. 23 for students in grades 3–5. Each grade level had 45 minutes to visit tables in the gym, ask questions, and learn about different careers, all while filling out their career Bingo cards. Organized by Iveland teacher Megan Merritt, the event brought together professionals from various fields to share their experiences with students.
Participants included the Humane Society of Missouri, Missouri Army National Guard, St. Charles Surgical Eye Center, Boeing, Carol’s Corner, Community Fire Protection District, hair stylist Amber Walters, news editor Mark Maxwell from KSDK-Ch. 5, and Nurse Susie Killian, who retired from Iveland in 2021. A special guest was Private First Class Gabriel Wooten, a former student of Merritt. Wooten recently completed basic training and job training with the Missouri Army National Guard and returned to share his journey and inspire students.
Students enjoyed exploring career options and sharing their dream jobs, ranging from YouTube content creators to professional athletes and scientists. The discussions especially inspired Third-graders Avaya and Henlee. Avaya enjoyed learning about the Army National Guard, as her family has a history of service, but she thinks being a hairstylist would be fun. Henlee agreed, adding, “You can meet new people and do different hairstyles on them!”
Thank you to all the career representatives who made this event possible and to Ms. Merritt for coordinating. We’re proud of our Iveland community for helping inspire the next generation!
