Dr. Bruce Green Receives National Service to Youth Award

Dr. Green receiving award

Dr. Bruce Green, Ritenour’s assistant superintendent for Secondary Education, received the National Service to Youth Award, recognizing his longtime commitment to supporting and developing young people through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis.

Green, who joined Ritenour in 2021, was honored during the Boys & Girls Club’s annual Spotlight on Service recognition event on Aug. 25 at Edward Jones headquarters in Des Peres. The National Service to Youth Award recognizes outstanding staff for their dedicated years of service to the Boys & Girls Clubs and the young people it serves.

Green has been involved with the St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP) for nearly three decades. A proud member of the SLIP Class of 1995, Green returned to the program as a Training Facilitator in 2005. Since then, he has used his extensive background in education and leadership to help high school students strengthen their personal, academic and career skills.

Green also has played an instrumental role in developing SLIP’s employability skills curriculum, precollegiate academic programming and other strategic college and career initiatives for high school students.

“Dr. Green is a studious professional who utilizes his skills and social consciousness to improve our communities in St. Louis and across the nation,” said Shanise Johnson, executive director of the St. Louis Internship Program with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis. “Tenacious, resilient and resourceful are just a few words that immediately come to mind when I think over the last 25-plus years that I have spent serving our community with Dr. Green.”

Johnson also praised Green for continuing to make time for the program despite the demands of his leadership position in Ritenour.

“He commits his time, talents, and service to our mission which, in turn, affects our social fabric,” Johnson said. “For that, our internship program is eternally grateful for Dr. Green’s commitment to SLIP and to excellence.”

Ritenour Superintendent Dr. Chris Kilbride said the recognition reflects Green’s longstanding commitment to creating opportunities for young people both in Ritenour and throughout the St. Louis community.

“Dr. Green has dedicated his career to helping young people recognize their potential and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed,” Kilbride said. “He truly believes in investing in young people, and he has generously shared his time, knowledge and leadership with students throughout our community for many years. We are incredibly proud to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.”
