Ritenour Adds New Safety Protocols at Ritenour High School and Husky Academy
The Ritenour School District will have a new system in place to help keep students, staff and visitors safe at Ritenour High School and Husky Academy.
Beginning Oct. 25, 2024, the district will begin using the OPENGATE® weapons detection system. The new technology allows district safety personnel to screen for potential threats quickly and effectively. The technology is very similar to what students and the community experience when they go to a concert venue, a St. Louis Cardinals or St. Louis Blues game, the Fox Theater, and other large public events.

The OPENGATE® system will be used for all students, staff and visitors who enter RHS and Husky Academy during school hours. It will also be used for athletic and other events scheduled at Moore Field and in the high school building and auditorium. RHS administrators and security staff will be present as people go through the OPENGATE® system.
“This year, students, staff members and families have voiced their desire for metal detectors as one more layer of safety at RHS,” said Ritenour Superintendent Dr. Chris Kilbride. “Our Board of Education has supported this measure.”
Students, staff and visitors can walk through OPENGATE® with their backpacks or purses. Students and others who are carrying Chromebooks, laptops and binders will approach OPENGATE® with those items and hand them to administrators and security staff who are at these entry points.
“We continue to encourage staff, students and families to report any safety concerns through Safeline,” Kilbride noted. “We have also updated our page to include the non-emergency numbers for each of our local police departments. You can report safety concerns 24 hours a day by visiting our Safeline page on our website.
“Thank you again for your continued partnership as we work together to keep our schools safe.”
