Ritenour Students Honor Veterans with Heartfelt Celebrations
Ritenour students united in a heartwarming tribute to our nation’s heroes during Veterans Day celebrations on Nov. 11, 2024 across the community, showcasing gratitude and respect for those who served.
At the center of the district’s efforts, Ritenour High School’s Army JROTC cadets spent a memorable day connecting with veterans at the Missouri Veterans Home-St. Louis. Following a special ceremony, the cadets listened to veterans’ stories, shared conversations, and demonstrated their deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by these heroes. Their visit left a lasting impression on both the veterans and the cadets, highlighting the importance of fostering connections across generations.
“Our Veterans Day celebrations beautifully reflect Ritenour’s vision of developing leaders who value integrity, community, and service,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Kilbride. “By honoring our veterans, our students are not only showing gratitude but also demonstrating the qualities of future leaders—respect, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world.”
Kratz Elementary School also shined with its Veterans Day program, starting the day with a breakfast for veterans from Kratz families and friends. The celebration continued with an inspiring assembly that featured patriotic songs performed by first-graders and a special visit from RHS JROTC cadets, who shared why the JROTC program is important to them.
Marvin Elementary hosted U.S. Air Force Col. Marc Wimmer, who commended the students for their impressive knowledge about the Veterans Day holiday and respect for military service. The school’s second-graders performed with patriotic songs and poems, touching the hearts of families and friends who filled the gym.
At Ritenour Middle School, students lined the halls to create a hero’s welcome for eighth-grade social studies teacher and U.S. Air Force veteran David Morrison. The applause and cheers showed their appreciation in a powerful and personal way, turning the spotlight on one of their own. Afterward, students spent their Husky Time writing letters to veterans.
Meanwhile, Ritenour High School Leadership students honored military veterans among their staff with a special lunch and handmade appreciation signs. The effort created a sense of community and connection as they celebrated the dedication of staff members who have served their country before their time in Ritenour.
Ritenour was very proud to salute its 12 U.S. veterans who continue service to their country now as district administrators, educators, counselors, and support staff.
